Spell check not working on new MACBOOK pro - Microsoft Community Recently I received a similar thread from another customer who has the same issue ( Spelling & Grammar greyed out), please check the following thread and see if the suggestion provided works for you too.

Please open a blank or an existing document and then try opening Word Preferences again, check if the mentioned options are enabled. I understand Spelling & Grammar is greyed out Word preferences, from your screenshot, I noticed Ribbon & Toolbar is greyed also.
